Overview:
Like the Futurists of the early 20th century, we live in a world immersed in technology, urban trappings, speed, information, connectivity and change. Viewing it through a southern lens, tinted by tradition, can result in modern dissonance. For many, the narrative of the American South, will be informed and confined by its history, but how is its future to be portrayed? This exhibition seeks to showcase contemporary artists’ depictions of the schism and reconciliation of what might be called the New Southern Futurism.
Southern Futurism will run January 30 - April 7, 2017, with a reception held on March 25, 2017.

Jurors:
Entrepreneur Kevin Harris hails from Chicago, Illinois, where he developed his passion for the arts. Harris has received international acclaim as the Director of Museum of Public Art. His success in bringing extraordinary artists from around the world to produce artwork in areas as economically overlooked as south Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has changed the social conversation as well as the landscape.
Ann Connelly is the Founder and Owner of Ann Connelly Fine Art, established in 1989. Since graduating in Arts and Humanities from USL Connelly has set the bar for commercial gallery exhibitions, interior design, art consultation and civic engagement. Connelly has a unique perspective as an Asian American raised in Louisiana who has traveled the world. She looks for the many voices where the juxtaposition of the ancient and modern coalesce.
Rodneyna Hart is Curator of The Healthcare Gallery & Wellness Spa, Exhibitions Manager at Louisiana Art & Science Museum, and Co-Curator of the Prospect.3+Baton Rouge Invitational. Hart has been strategic in the growth of the contemporary art community as an artist, administrator, arts manager, preparator and curator.
Eligibility for Entry:
Artists of many different media are eligible to submit entries in consideration for the Southern Futurism Exhibition. Entries will be accepted in all tangible visual media including painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, photography, fiber art, and graffiti art.
All 2-D work may not exceed 7’H x 7’L feet in height and must be professionally framed and ready-to-hang.
All 3-D work may not exceed 150 pounds and must be ready-for-exhibition
Submission Guidelines:
All work must be submitted prior to the submission deadline, January 6, 2017, 11:59pm central time.
Artists may set up a free profile and submit up to 10 works for consideration through the website CaFe, Prospectus and Application is found at :

We ask that you include an artist statement (no more than 2000 characters) on your submitted work.
Images and videos submitted must represent the works for consideration to be accepted.
The Healthcare Gallery reserves the right to use images submitted for press purposes.
Please only deliver works that were selected by jurors.
