Gay Baton Rouge: New Orleans minor
The Louisiana state capital, Baton Rouge experienced a population swell after Hurricane Katrina, as people relocated from New Orleans. These newcomers brought with them more liberal ideas and a flourishing of culture, as well as economic growth, which has made Baton Rouge a more vital city than it once was. The gay community has grown here also, with gay and lesbian Mardi Gras krewes, a burgeoning pride festival and a handful of gay clubs. The homosexual population is pretty evenly split between gays and lesbians, and the social scene tends to be mixed. Though Louisiana State University calls Baton Rouge home, and, like any higher education town, the college presence brings with it diversity and acceptance.
